What I found! The Goodwill Glitter Sale

So, after I saw such great looks at the Goodwill Glitter Gala, I had to find some glitter for myself!  Dearborn Goodwill is the central location for the amazing items that have been collected all year and held for this sale.

First, let me say that shopping on Sunday was perfect.  Hardly any lines, lots of stuff left and new items being put out all day long.  (See pic!)

Here was my haul:

Great camel colored llama coat:  $49.99

Black vintage sequin top:  $49.99

Blue patent bag:  $19.99

Blue swingy dress:  $9.99

Silver evening bag:  $12.99

But the real fun?  Talking and laughing with complete strangers about memories around certain looks.  Remember Dynasty and Golden Girls?  Lots of looks like that.  Something great for a trip to Vegas?  My friend had great success in this area!  Or finally, what about finding what seems  like a “one of a kind”item.  My only word for that:  Priceless!

Goodwill Glitter Gala was a Blast!

Last Wednesday night I attended the Goodwill Glitter Gala at the Sheraton in Seattle.  I’ve been going for several years now and I always enjoy the evening.  This year’s theme, “Fire and Ice” was very cool.  The “looks” that came on the runway were varying degrees of the color of fire including blue, red, yellow, etc ending with a beautiful collection of white (ice!) looks that were amazing.  I love that the hair and makeup is over the top and that the models are all real men and women who embrace their job for the evening with enthusiasm.  Check out the fabulous looks that I caught on camera!

Fun Up Fashion with a Scarf

Trying to find a way to “fun up” your wardrobe without breaking the bank?  Scarves are the way to go.  I love TJ MAXX for scarves because the looks are current and the prices are right. But wherever you go, look for scarves that can go with a variety of looks to make your money work for you in your wardrobe.  I love scarves with prints because I wear a lot of black, brown and gray.  Scarves can add a lot of spice to a look without changing your clothes!

Ann Taylor’s Fabulous Facelift

Have you been into Ann Taylor lately?  If not, you should get there soon.  In particular, the Bellevue Square store is amazing.  This last year they have had a transformation and not only are the products more cutting edge fashion, the styling of them is as well.  It is easy to visualize a variety of ways to wear one item by looking around at their ideas or easily coming up with your own.  I love Sally ( amazing eye for style as well as incredible customer service) and Leah, the store manager who goes out of her way to make sure my clients (and myself) are well taken care of.

Bootights

This time of year I start to think about how to keep my feet warm in my boots and still remain fashionable. Well, Shelby Mason, owner/founder of Bootights figured it out and the result is amazing. Think cozy, warm socks AND tights all in one product. They are amazing. Last week on one of the first chilly days I put them on and stayed cozy all day long. You can find them at Nordstrom in store and online at a variety of retailers. They are well worth the $30 price tag. I love this tight and will start the fall knowing my feet will be dry and warm all day long. Bootights are simply revolutionary!

Missoni at Target

Yesterday I went to Target to see the Missoni line for Target.  I had to drive carpool so I got there “late”… they opened at 8am, I got there at 9am.

There was nothing left. Not a thing in housewares, clothing, scarves.  Nothing.  Now, I knew it was going to go fast.  What I didn’t expect, and found to be a little gross, was that people were actually hoarding  carts of clothes that didn’t fit in order to sell them on Ebay.  Maybe I just don’t get it?

What is the deal with needing to have more than you need?  And how do you feel okay when people are standing around looking in your cart (which is piled high) longingly.

Maybe it’s just sour grapes, but I won’t be participating in any online Ebay purchases.  I’ll save my money and go for the “real thing” down the road.

Make it Your Own

There are lots of new looks out there these days for Spring/Summer.

It’s easy to get sucked into the “void” of fashion and style by trying to wear the trend of the moment because it looks good on someone else.

Here’s the deal, if you like a new trend  (like flowy tops with baggy pants) which I am seeing a lot of these days, just take one trend and work it.  Follow the rule:  ”fuller on top, skinnier on the bottom” or “skinnier on top, fuller on the bottom”.  In general, as adults, if we try to work it all ways, it ends up not working at all.

Very few people can pull off the trend of the moment like we see it in fashion magazines.  They are putting all the looks together partly to sell a look but more to sell products.  So don’t fall into the trap of following too many trends at one time.

One thing at a time, I like to say.

Walk About Pants

If you are looking for a great hiking, travel or “walkabout” pant, look no further than Lucy.  They sell a long version, capri and a longer shorts version.  What’s great about them is that they are from extremely stretchy fabric, they don’t really look like a “camping” pants though you could wear them for that as well.   If you are going on a long plane trip, they may be just the thing for you.  They dry fast after washing, wear well and you can travel without wearing your yoga pants which is one of my “rules.”
