Time to begin, again.
February 22, 2015

That’s how I like to look at the New Year. And cleaning pretty much any and everything that gets in my way is the best way for me to start anew.

We all know how much I like a clean and organized closet. However, I often get in a rut sometime around November and it can stick with me thru Christmas. Things seem to get pushed aside and shoved away. The next thing you know I’m pulling stuff out of the give away boxes trying to find something “new” to wear and that, as we know, is the beginning of the end.

Fortunately, right after Christmas I get this itch to really start cleaning and then there is no stopping me. As of today, I’ve cleaned out the pantry, all the coat closets, the linen closets and of course my closet. Then I started in on my office. Basically the day after Christmas sets off an avalanche of getting rid of stuff in our house. And I love it. To me it’s like Spring cleaning for the Winter.

And why not? It’s such a great time to settle in and reevaluate. What we own, what we choose to keep and how we choose to show up in the world does matter. When my spaces are a mess (office, closet, etc) it’s hard for me to be the person I want to be. Productive, positive and centered.

Which brings me to why you might consider doing the same. It’s kind of like a cleanse for your home. It feels so good to get rid of stuff that I’m not using anymore and to make those trips to Goodwill or to a consignment shop. Believe me, I know it can be daunting. It can also be a time to reflect on good and bad purchases. Maybe to even make a pact with yourself to make conscientious and good choices this year with spending habits. I know that’s where I am today. And I’m hoping to keep that feeling going far into the New Year.

Below you will see the 5 things I ask myself (and others) when cleaning out any closet. I hope you will find the same kind of joy I did in getting rid of the old and ushering in the New Year!
