This afternoon I was pre shopping  for a client I will be working with soon.  I really enjoy the process.  It allows me to see what’s in all the stores and gives me a good idea of what I want to show my client and where I want to pass.

Plus, it gives me a chance to people watch and people listen.  It is fascinating to me to hear what women in particular say when they are shopping together or from dressing room to dressing room.  There’s a lot of the typical stuff like, “wow, this is really bad” to “man I feel fat” to “I love this”.  The conversations run the gamut.Today I heard what I think was the best quote I’ve heard in a long time.  Thus, the reason I decided to use it as my sidebar quote.

Two women were at Nordstrom Rack in the shoe section.  They had lots of shoes between them and they were carrying on a conversation as I walked by that sounded like it had been going for awhile.  And this is the part I heard.

Woman 1:  “Well, life isn’t perfect.”
Woman 2:   “No, but your boots should be.”

Both of them threw their heads back and laughed out loud while I continued walking by laughing to myself about how really true that statement is.

Life is full of a lot of moments.  Disappointments, thrills, highs, lows and everything in between.

And because there is often nothing we can do about the ups and downs  of life, I say all the more reason to love your boots.  And not just your boots, but everything in your closet.

Loving everything in your closet and everything you buy sets you up for huge success.  It makes it easy to get dressed, it makes it fun to figure out what you’ll wear for an event.

I leave you with these questions as we head into the New Year:

  • When did you last really clean out your closet?  Over a year ago?  Get on it!
  • How many things are hanging there that don’t fit, you don’t like or you wished you didn’t buy?  Give them away, sell them or at the very least put them in storage.
  • How many things do you love?  You know my answer to this one.

My challenge to you is to get in there and get rid of things that are holding you back.

Since life isn’t perfect, then your boots should be.

Enjoy this holiday with family and friends.
